This book has some cursing (including a few f-bombs) and a couple of sex scenes but neither of those things overwhelmed the story. If those things bother you, they're easily skipped over or ignored. While this is the second book of a beautiful series, you don't have to read the first book to enjoy this one – it totally stands alone. All that said, you should read Then There Was You because it is so great.Miranda Liasson is one of my very few one-click authors because her books are all written with such a tremendous amount of humor, heart, and the kind of characters that make me crave more of them. The Way You Love Me is one of those books that ticks all of my “happiness” boxes. This story had an adorable meet-cute (which I won't spoil but it's pretty hilarious), and a well-written plot that made it hard for me to put down. If you like a book that is laced with subtle humor, you'll love Miranda Liasson's writing “voice”. Her wry but hilarious way of telling a story a story is incredibly captivating.
I identified with Gabby in a lot of ways, so I was fully invested in her story and whether she'd figure out what she wanted to do with her life. Watching her grow into her own was awesome, and I loved the way she figured herself out. The ties that Gabby had with her late mother, and the discoveries she made about her family history were intriguing and I couldn't stop reading once the plot started to really unravel – I needed to know everything!
I also really adored Cade and I just wanted the two of them to figure out how to have their happily ever after because these just two belonged together. Now, in the interest of full disclosure, Cade is kind of a tool during the aforementioned meet cute, but he was also a stupidly charming tool. Like Gabby, I was smitten with him from the start. Even when he was flawed throughout the book, he was still a great guy who just wanted the best for Gabby and more importantly, for his daughter, Ava. Cade was an amazing father who would have done anything to keep Ava happy and healthy, and I loved his devotion to her. There is nothing sexier than a man who adores his daughter. And speaking of Ava, she was wonderful. So often kids in books are written more little adults or obnoxious brats, but Ava was absolutely adorable. I loved the way that she and Gabby bonded so organically and so beautifully.
Thanks to all of the foreshadowing, I am really, really looking forward to Rafe's story. I want to gush about all of the things I'm looking forward to in that, but I don't want to spoil anything. I cannot wait for that book!

The Way You Love Me Includes a bonus novella Angel Falls Miranda Liasson 9781455541829 Books Reviews
The Way You Love Me is Miranda Liasson's second book in the small town romance series, Angel Falls. Gabby is a people pleaser and it's been awhile since she did something just for herself. Cade is a brooding single father with a chip on his shoulder. Writing brings them together and introduces them to a possibility of following their hearts. A great small town love story that will have readers clamoring for more.
What I liked
You know that situation that happens when you meet somebody that you have potential with... the one where you start out on the wrong foot? Maybe you can't stand each other, or you end up embarrassing yourself in a big way. That's exactly what happens with Gabby and Cade. It's not love at first sight and I liked that. It's a lot more down to earth and a lot more believable than some books in the romance genre. Liasson always brings the small town charm but this one has something more... it's relatable.
I think authors who write in the contemporary romance genre always run the risk of adding too much pop culture or not enough. You don't want to date the book per se but you want the audience to feel like these characters are living a life they could live or that they are experiencing the same things they could experience. I think Liasson did a great job with that balance. From Gabby's choice of taking a community ed class in creative writing to Cade's YouTube research on hair braiding lol... That was a great touch.
You can't talk about what you like about this book without mentioning, Nonna and the other secondary characters like Gabby's brother, Rafe, who happens to get his story in the next book in the series. Liasson has a wonderful way of getting her characters to interact with the community at large. Angel Falls is a great little town with lots of interesting people. Makes a reader want to move in and get to know people.
I enjoyed the main couple, Gabby and Cade very much. They had something in common. The desire to write. I'm a sucker for books about books or writing. Maybe they feature a writer or a librarian or something of that sort. Liasson hit all the write buttons for me on this front. The creativity that brought these two together was interesting. I could feel Cade's frustration at his writers block and I could feel Gabby's excitement at finding a connection to her mother and in following her passion.
You get more than just a little teaser at the end of this one with a preview of the next book. You also get a very good novella from Alison Bliss... soooo good you gotta read it!
What I didn't Like
Sometimes there just isn't anything I don't like lol... It happens. This one was sweet and easy to read. It was one of those books that the characters just get under your skin. The families and the people around them are just as fleshed out as the main couple and you find yourself just wanting to read more. That's what makes this one a five apple read...
Bottom Line
Small town romances are a favorite of mine. Maybe they don't have all the glits and glam of thriller but they just make you feel good. This is one of those stories that doesn't have police chases or huge dramatic struggles. But it doesn't need it. It's well written. It's easy to relate to and the characters are people you'd want to meet in the coffee shop or the supermarket. Loved it!
I've been waiting to read The Way You Love Me by Miranda Liasson. I loved her first book in the Angel Falls series where Gabby was introduced and I wanted Gabby to find her soulmate too.
Gaby Langdon just recently made partner at her law firm. She works hard and long hours. Before deciding to be a lawyer, she took many classes to see what inspired her. In the end, she decided to go for a job that she knew would pay the bills and her father would approve. Yet, she has always had the desire to write. When she finds her mother's manuscript she decides to join a creative writing class to feel a connection to her deceased mother. What she wasn't expecting was to fall for her teacher.
Cade Marshall is a famous writer. A one-hit-wonder after his ex-wife proclaimed she gave him all his ideas for his book. After this awful occurrence, Cade developed a huge writer's block. He's not sure he can write another book. Cade moves back to Angel Falls after accepting a job as a professor in a creative writer's class. Cade just wants a stable job to help sustain his three-year-old daughter. Having the hots for his student was not part of his low-profile plan.
I liked both Gaby and Cade. Gaby was always supportive, a good sister and super nice to Cade's daughter. Cade was good at his job and as soon as he realized he was in trouble for falling for Gaby, he tried to keep his distance.
The Way You Love Me was a super cute small town romance. A fast read full of engaging characters.
At the end of The Way You Love Me, we get a glimpse into the next couple. Rafe (Gaby's brother) and Katilyn's story is next.
Cliffhanger No
4/5 Fangs
