Dark Celebration A Carpathian Reunion Christine Feehan 9780425211670 Books

I have been working my way through Feehan's prolific Dark Carpathian series for the last several weeks. My original interest was a search for understanding the widespread and enduring attraction to this particular fantasy/romance genre. I found myself curiously absorbed into the story, drama, action and plot like of this mythical species living among us on this earth. The saga has appeal because the species struggle to survive is expertly superimposed over the classic good vs evil dilemmas even non-fantasy species endure. The sex is sizzling and abundant, the sanguinicity tolerable.

HOWEVER

This book disappoints! I forked over $9 for this series installment - a high price to pay for me. I received a book I should have been paid to read. While the story is still quality, the writing and editing are pathetic. I made countless notes over misspelled words, in some sections on every page; their frequency supremely distracting...annoying...irritating...
There are extraneous and random spaces inserted throughout the text. There are even grammatical errors where words are used incorrectly and out of context - not characteristic of this author in the previous 15 books. The storyline is actually interrupted by both the frequency and the magnitude of editing failures. Don't bother with this book if publishing butchery is a problem for you too.

I am trying the next offering in this series, just because. At the first sign of this aggravating shortfall, the book, the author, and the series get sidelined.....pity.

Dark Celebration A Carpathian Reunion Christine Feehan 9780425211670 Books Reviews

I love Christine Feehan's "Dark" series. I think I have all of them in paperbook, and about half of them in hardback, and some of them digital. I plan to download all of them, but I can't afford to do so all at once, but I'm working on it.
Reading this book was a great way of reminding me of the books I've read previously and have to read, if I missed a story! I'm so glad that Ms. Feehan hasn't been slowing down her imagination with her stories or her writing! Thanks again for the story.😀😀
What a neat holiday gift for all us Feehan fans! The author brings in all the old friends and couples, sets up some new story lines, and makes at least ONE of my own predictions come true when she lifemates the wolfman and the Parisian orphan girl.

If you haven't read any of the Carpathian books, don't start with this one. The pleasure is in the backstories and the bringing-up-to-date, and if you don't already know these people, nothing will make sense.

There are some really funny scenes, and the whole atmosphere is light-hearted. Sure, there's a Dreadful Threat, but we know all along that things will turn out OK.

I really enjoy all these books (as well as those in another of her series, the seven sisters.) The Carpathians are great, and though at my advanced age (65!) I tend to skim the sex scenes with a feeling of "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Get back to the story, people!" I consider most of these books keepers and re-read them off and on (mostly when I am down with the flu and need something comforting and familiar to pass the time,) and recommend them to anyone who likes vampires, good vs. evil, and so forth.

I pre-ordered this one, and was delighted when it arrived in September. I didn't expect a riveting storyline, and when I didn't get it, it didn't faze me. I felt that the book sort of cleansed the palate for the next set, to which I look forward.

Thanks, Ms. Feehan!
I am always happy to see what characters from past books are doing so naturally I liked this book. However, two things irritated

I never before noticed how often Ms. Feehan uses the word "pleasure" until I read this on my and every time it was separated into plea sure. And every time I read over it - it jarred until I started thinking maybe she could use another word once in a while.

Secondly, I really didn't need a sex scene between each couple. We got how hot they were for each other in the original books. It was much more fun to see how Corrine loved to jog because she never could before and how Savannah turned her dad's joke on Gregori of being Santa into something he could live with and how the younger kids were playing games and staying in touch over the internet. I assume as much as the lifemates are in love with each other that they're having sex. Let me know what else they're doing!
The only real reason to read this book is that it gives a glimpse into what has happened with all of the previous characters. An update, if you will. Of course, it obviously lays the groundwork for the next story in the series, Dark Possession, between Manolito De La Cruz and Mary Ann Delaney. There are still more questions than answers with regard to Razvan and the dark Mage. By the end of the book we know Sara, Raven, and Tempest are with child, Shea gives birth to a son, and many of the other women discover they can conceive. Surprisingly, we learn that Gary's sister is Colby's mother, and that they are descended from the Jaguar people. Gabrielle survives her transformation, Riordan and Juliette survive a vampire attack, and Mikhail passes along the duty of being Santa Claus to Gregori, which is THE most hilarious dialogue in the book by far.

On the downside, this book has 60+ typos in it and that are just astounding. Appalling, really. It is beyond ridiculous that you pay so much for a book and words like "pleasure" are written as two words "plea" and "sure" and the same applies to the words measure, whatever, tonight, household, housework, housekeeper, independent, stiffness, and stiffen, just to name a few. Really, ? Really? In de pen dent? Stiff en? Ugh!!!!

The discrepancies WITHIN the book are astounding too. In the first chapter Skyler is described as having dark hair shimmering with red highlights, then in Chaoter 9 her hair color is blonde.
